Angry birds will fly again!
A sequel to the animated film Angry Birds is in the works, a leading Rovio executive told the The Wall Street Journal. Based on the popular video game created by Rovio Entertainment, the action-adventure comedy opened at number one last spring on its way to grossing over $347 million from a modest $73 million budget.
“We currently have several exciting new games and other projects in development, including new IP, and we have started planning the sequel to ‘The Angry Birds Movie.’” ,” Rovio’s Chief Executive Kati Levoranta said in an interview with the The Wall Street Journal.
While the film received mix reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, The Angry Birds Movie boasts an impressive array of vocal talent led by Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, and Danny McBride. The supporting cast features a who’s who of comedic actors including Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key, Tituss Burgess, Billy Eichner, Hannibal Buress, Jillian Bell, and Ike Barinholtz.
The film also has a number of first-rate singers contributing to an incredible soundtrack. Demi Lovato sang “I Will Survive” for the movie, while Blake Shelton and Charli XCX contributed the songs “Friends” and “Explode,” respectively.
No potential release date for the Angry Birds sequel has been announced.
