Tris Prior’s journey in Divergent is far from over, but it looks like the final film in the series may have to carry on without one if it’s biggest stars.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, actress Shailene Woodley, who’s brought Tris to life in three of the four planned Divergent films, revealed that she might not be interested in coming back to reprise her role.
The Snowden star’s hesitance stems from the recent news that Lionsgate has decided to pull the final film, Ascendant, from theaters and instead move forward with a TV movie that would then potentially open the doors for television series spinoff.
“Last I heard they were trying to make it into a television show,” said Woodley. “Out of respect to the studio and everyone involved, they may have changed their mind and may be doing something different, but I’m not necessarily interested in doing a television show.”
It’s sad to hear that Woodley herself may not be interested in wrapping up Tris’ story line, but at the same time, it’s easy to understand her hesitancy. Despite Lionsgate’s proposed television plans, the fate of the final installment of the Divergent series is still very much up in the air when it comes to which actors could be returning.
In a recent interview with Variety, actor Miles Teller spoke candidly about the fact that the lines are a bit blurred for everyone involved when it comes to Ascendant because of the proposed shift to a television format.
“When we all signed on for the first one we had every intention of finishing it theatrically,” said Teller. “We signed on for x amount of movies and you take that all into consideration. We wanted to see that storyline finished. You know, it’s moving to a different format. So who knows.”
We’re hoping that once plans are completely confirmed, Lionsgate will be able to bring back as many original actors as possible. After all, it would be nice to see Woodley, Teller, and the rest of the gang return to wrap up the Divergent series with one last film.
