The first official still from the upcoming action flick, American Assassin is here and it features actor Dylan O’Brien like we’ve never seen him before.

The Teen Wolf alum plays novelist Vince Flynn’s popular CIA black ops recruit Mitch Rapp in the upcoming thriller. O’Brien is completely in control in the photo, which features the actor cast in shadow in what looks like a dimly lit cell. He’s standing powerfully over his prisoner, who looks a bit worse for wear lying on the floor, but it’s clear that Rapp isn’t taking any chances when it comes to letting his enemy get the better of him.

“FIRST LOOK: @dylanobrien as Mitch Rapp in American Assassin,” tweeted the film’s official Twitter account on Monday (Sept. 12) along with the photo.

Helmed by Kill the Messenger director Michael Cuesta, the film follows the journey of Mitch Rapp, a counterterrorist operative serving under Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton).

Together, they’re tapped by the CIA to investigate a string of attacks on military and civilian targets. It’s clear Rap and Hurely get more than they bargain for when they suddenly find themselves having to stop a a man (Taylor Kitsch) hellbent on starting a war in the Middle East.

It sounds like we’re in for quite the ride when the film finally hits theaters and we can’t wait to see what Dylan O’Brien does with the role!
