There is a new Marry Poppins coming to the big screen, but it’s not a reboot like we first thought. It is going to be a different story, but don’t worry your favorite characters will return!

Any Mary Poppins film is a good idea in our minds, and as soon as it was announced that Mary Poppins Returns was actually happening, we’ve been patiently (well, as patient as possible) waiting for more news to surface.

What we do know is that Mary Poppins Return will star Emily Blunt as the iconic Mary Poppins herself and Meryl Streep is slated to plays Mary’s cousin, Topsy, making for an Into the Woods reunion that we can’t wait to see.

The biggest male lead to be announced so far is Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, a street lamplighter, who was basically Bert’s apprentice. When Variety sat down with the Hamilton star and creator for its 2016 Gotham issue, Miranda set the record straight about the upcoming movie by confirming that it’s definitely not a reboot.

“It’s a straight up sequel,” Miranda said in an interview conducted for the cover story in Variety’s 2016 Gotham issue. “Michael and Jane Banks have grown up, and they find themselves in their own spot, and Mary Poppins comes back to take care of Michael’s kids.”

The Banks kids all grown up and raising kids of their own? That is going to be brilliant! Fingers crossed there are still dancing penguins in the sequel. Plus, would it really be a Marry Poppins adventure if there wasn’t a bag full of magical things? We hope not!

Mary Poppins Returns is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2018
