‘The Vampire Diaries’ Boss Makes Final Season Promise To ‘End It Right’

With The Vampire Diaries’ eighth and final season set to premiere on The CW next week, we’re already starting to get emotional about saying goodbye to Mystic Falls. Thankfully, it sounds like the show is planning to go out in fine form — at least according to showrunner Julie Plec.

Plec took to Twitter earlier this week to reassure fans that the the final run of the series will be fulfilling.

“Today on set we hit the halfway mark of our final season,” Plec tweeted on Monday. “We’re putting a lot of love into it. Gonna end it right.”

Plec also posted a hilarious photo of herself wearing a Paul Wesley (aka Stefan) mask to make the impending doom of leaving TVD behind a little less bleak.

“Also this, because it makes me smile. Thank you @PWChronicles for the gift. #TVDForever,” she wrote alongside the funny photo.

Though Plec hasn’t divulged too much about the season 8 storyline, she has gone on record to say that they are in the process of bringing Nina Dobrev back.

“A promise was made — an emotional promise — that I would love to see come to life,” Plec previously told TV Line’s Andy Swift when asked about whether or not Dobrev would return to the series. “There’s been friendship promises made, and now we’ll see if we can deliver on them.”

To tide fans over until the upcoming season premiere, Plec has been posting a lot of family-style photos of the cast from various events, including San Diego Comic-Con (the show’s last one!) and the season 8 kick-off dinner. See the photos below and try not to cry because it’s the beginning of the end of vampires and hybrids in Mystic Falls.
