On Tuesday’s episode of Chicago Fire, the feud between Chief Boden and Jimmy Borrelli finally came to a head and the result was the loss of one firefighter’s job – and an eye.

Warning: If you haven’t watched the Tuesday, Oct. 18 episode of Chicago Fire, stop reading now!

Sadly for Chicago Fire fans, Steven R. McQueen, who played Jimmy on the series will no longer be a series regular, TVLine and Entertainment Weekly report. In fact, his storyline on Tuesday’s episode proves he definitely needs a rest, and he might not ever return.

During the episode, Jimmy and Boden’s issue over Jimmy’s brother’s death, which Jimmy thinks Boden is responsible for, finally becomes too much for the two of them. Jimmy ends up calling his own shots during a fire call, which results in him getting badly burned and even losing an eye, sidelining him from fighting fires.

According to reports, McQueen’s character isn’t likely to return to Firehouse 51 – at least not anytime soon due to his injuries.

“Character-wise, you can never burn bridges on a show too badly to not salvage them. [Jimmy] goes out fighting for what he believes in, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” executive producer, Michael Brandt told TVLine about the show’s decision to cut McQueen’s character at this point in time.

“At the end of the episode, there’s a scene between him and Boden where you realize everything is OK between them. Boden respects why Jimmy did what he did. But that said, there are no plans right now to bring Jimmy back to the show,” he explained.

The former star of The Vampire Diaries has yet to talk about his exit from the NBC series, but he did promote the latest episode on his Instagram account sharing a photo from it and encouraging fans to tune in.
