The first Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them film may not even out yet, but this casting news has fans excited for the sequel. Johnny Depp has been tapped to star in the upcoming sequel to J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter prequel, Warner Bros. announced yesterday (Nov. 1) via The Hollywood Reporter.

Depp makes a cameo in the first film, due out in theaters this month, but of course the story will be centered around magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his briefcase of magical creatures.

David Yates, who directed the first film in the budding franchise, will also helm the Depp-starring sequel, scheduled for release in November 2018.

Depp’s resume proves he’s well trained in mystic, mysterious roles. From Edward Scissorhands to Willy Wonka to Sweeney Todd and more, Depp has made a career out of playing to kookiest, creepiest characters on the big screen. His last freaky/funny role was playing the Mad Hatter in 2016’s Alice Through the Looking Glass.

See if you can spot Johnny’s cameo when Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them arrives in theaters everywhere on Nov. 18. With the U.S. premiere weekend for the film projected to make $75 million in the box office, be sure to get your tickets early.
