Beyoncé has a habit of casually making history, doesn’t she?

Despite critics saying that she isn’t a “real country singer,” Beyoncé took the stage for the first time at the 50th Annual Country Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee last night (Nov. 2). The R&B diva reached into her down-home Houston roots to perform the song “Daddy Lessons” off her latest album Lemonade—and she didn’t do it alone. Queen Bey called on famed country trio The Dixie Chicks to help her belt out the tune and add some knee-slapping live instrumentation.

Decked out in a diamond and pearl-encrusted mermaid style gown with puffed up shoulder details, Beyoncé and the Dixie Chick started off the set by compelling the audience to stand up and dance with them. Audience pans throughout the performance show stars like Matthew McConaughey and Miranda Lambert were feeling it.

Her band and back-up singers were dressed all in white, but one of her saxophone players really stole his solo moment by knocking together his golden cowboy boots while wailing on his instrument. Not to be outdone, Dixie Chick Martie Maguire killed her violin solo while the performers and audience danced in delight. From there, the ladies transitioned in performing the bridge Dixie Chicks’ “Long Time Gone” before finishing up with the final chorus of Bey’s “Daddy Lessons.” At the end of their five-minute romp, the CMA’s crowd was on its feet!

Beyoncé’s Beyhive, many of whom are staunch R&B pop fans, tweeted not only their excitement for their Queen’s first CMA performance but also shared that Beyoncé was in fact the only reason they were tuning in—no surprise there. Check out some fan and celeb-tweeted reactions to before, during and after Bey and the Dixie Chicks served up a lesson to the CMAs.
