Here’s The One Thing About ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ That Still Bothers Me Today

Wizards of Waverly Place went off the air in 2012, but there is still one thing I can’t stop thinking about. How did the Russo family never get bored of eating at their own restaurant?

The Russo family, made up of Justin (David Henrie), Alex (Selena Gomez), Max (Jake T. Austin), and their parents, Jerry (David DeLuise) and Theresa (Maria Canals Barrera) lived in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, which is full of food places, but they only ate at their restaurant.

While it makes perfect sense to have the Waverly Sub Station as one of the main locations of the series — like Central Perk was on Friends or MacLaren’s Pub was on How I Met Your Mother — I just don’t get how a sub sandwich restaurant doesn’t get boring when it comes to food options.

Waverly Sub Station was designed to look like a subway station, which is pretty cool, but it was a sandwich shop! You can’t eat sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Well, you could but it would be gross and tiresome. Sorry, but it’s true.

The family was magical, so technically they could make their normal subs into any type of food, so for that reason, it makes sense that they wouldn’t need to branch out and try another type of restaurant, but they didn’t really switch up the menu all that often, which leads me to wonder if they were just always hungry.

If the Russo crew ate at their own restaurant all the time, then when did they try other types of cuisine? Did they order in Chinese food when I wasn’t looking? If they were constantly feeding others, then did they cook in their loft very often? If so, is that when they ate Mexican food or pizza? There are so many questions!

Plus, if they ate all their meals in this restaurant, which they did at least once an episode, were they able to make a profit? On that note, does that fact that Harper Finkle (aka Alex’s BFF) worked at the restaurant mean that she never had to pay for a meal? Correct me if I’m wrong, but you rarely saw any of the Russo kids’ friends pay for anything they ate, and they ate there every day! How could they have made any money?
