All hail, Hailee Steinfeld!

The Pitch Perfect 2 star is a great actress (she was nominated for an Oscar for True Grit), has terrific comedic timing, and is definitely lovable on screen, so it makes total sense that she was the perfect fit for the new movie, Edge of Seventeen. In fact, the movie’s producer revealed that she is the only one that could’ve made the movie work.

Producer James L. Brooks revealed at a Contenders panel on Saturday that Steinfeld was the only fit for the upcoming teen flick.

“We had been at the casting process for some time, and if she hadn’t walked in, we wouldn’t make the movie,” Brooks revealed during the panel, which was moderated by Deadline’s Pete Hammond. “It was like As Good As It Gets; there was only one person who could play that part, and that was Jack Nicholson.”

As for Steinfeld, she automatically felt drawn to the character of Nadine, who is full of angst and pretty much your typical teenager in the comedy.

“There was so much I could identify with in this script. I have two thoughts: This truly felt like an honest representation of what being a teenager is today, and at the same time, people have no way of defining when it takes place, because it’s timeless,” Steinfeld said.

Since Steinfeld nailed it as a college freshmen in Pitch Perfect 2, and isn’t that far from her high school years, only being 19, we can’t wait to see her performance when the movie finally hits theaters.

The Edge of Seventeen, which also stars Woody Harrelson, hits theaters on November 18.
