Stranger Things may have had us falling in love with the likes of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and more, but it sounds like we might have a whole new crop of potential fan favorites coming our way in season 2.

Shawn Levy, who produced and directed the hit Netflix sci-fi series, recently caught up with Collider during a special screening of his film Reel Steel. During the Q&A portion of the screening, the topic turned over to Stranger Things and lucky for us, Levy shared a bit of insight as to what we can expect from the series’ highly anticipated second chapter.

While teasing that we’ll see a bit of a time jump between where we left things off in season 1 and where season 2 begins, Levy got on the topic of some new faces we’ll see as the story continues.

“There are several new characters who I think several of them are going to be new fan-favorites because they’re great, great new characters,” teased Levy. “But we are definitely sticking primarily with our core group, and what is different, [and] how are they changed from the experience of last season.”

There’s been loads of exciting news coming from the Stranger Things season 2 camp ever since Netflix announced the show would be returning with a new crop of episodes next year.

In addition to a cryptic trailer revealing the tentative episode titles for the season, we’ve also gotten quite a few casting announcements for newcomers set to join the Stranger Things family.

True to the show’s 80s roots, Netflix recently announced that both Sean Astin (The Goonies, Lord of the Rings) and Paul Reiser (Alien, Mad About You) had been cast in roles for season 2.

As much fun as it’ll be to see some familiar faces amidst the newcomers, we’re even more excited to see what Astin and Reiser’s characters will be like as the storyline in the second season progresses!

Stranger Things season 2 is set to premiere sometime next year on Netflix.
