This season of Arrow has delivered more than its fair share of twists and turns, but it sounds like we’ve only just begun to scratch the surface.

Stephen Amell recently sat down with EW and spoke candidly about the show’s fifth season and what it could mean for the future of both the series and his character, Oliver Stark.

As Amell explains it, Arrow on a whole has reached a fork in the road. Fans who’ve been following this season religiously have probably tuned into the fact that just like the series, Oliver himself is at a bit of a crossroads.

Oliver may be Star City’s new mayor, but that hasn’t stopped him from throwing in the towel when it comes to keeping the city safe. By night, the hooded hero continues to pick off villains one by one, and this year, he’s not doing it alone. Oliver’s also currently in the midst of training a new team of vigilantes just like him to assist in his plight against criminals.

For his part, Amell isn’t sure where the series goes from here, but the actor did make it clear that he believes Arrow is coming up on a make-or-break moment.

“I do really believe that this season is sort of a throw-down-the-gauntlet year for us, where we’re either going to do what we want to do and do it well or it’s just the last year,” said Amell.

So what are the odds that we’ll see Arrow return for a season 6? According to Amell, it all comes down to good old fashioned hard work.

“If we find that magic formula— which is not magic, it’s just hard work and playing to your strengths— then the show could go on for a really long time,” said Amell.

Here’s hoping they find the magic Amell is referring to— we’re sure we speak for most fans when we say that we’d love it if Arrow stuck around for a few more seasons!
