Last night’s American Music Awards were filled with amazing performances and big wins in all genres of music. But for Selena Gomez, it was an opportunity to show some vulnerability that proved to be the most talked about moment of the night.
The Revival singer won the AMA for Favorite Female Artist — Pop/Rock. Making her first public appearance since taking an official career break in October, the gorgeous singer/actress took the stage in a floor-length red ballgown. Sel, looking stronger than ever, took the time for her acceptance speech to explain why she had been taking a career break.
“I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,” explained Gomez to the standing room of celebs and fans. “I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”
With a trembling voice, Gomez thanked her loyal fans —”I don’t know what I did to deserve you”—which was welcomed with cheers from the auditorium.
Back in October, it was reported that the pop star had checked herself into rehab for mental health issues relating to her lupus. This was after completing her whirlwind Revival World Tour in August 2016.
