Lauren Graham Says The ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival Final Scene Is Not ‘Precisely An Ending’

If you’re among the many Gilmore Girls fans who feels as if the final four words in Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life leaves the door open for a continuation down the line, you’re not alone.

Actress Lauren Graham, who plays Lorelai Gilmore, recently opened up about the final four words in her new memoir, Talking As Fast As I Can.

According to Bustle, Graham explains within the book that she actually had no idea what Palladino’s ending entailed until they got around to filming the scene. That’s fairly impressive considering the showrunner has had the ending of Gilmore Girls planned since the very beginning. So what was Graham’s reaction to hearing how the show would end? Like many fans, she was a bit stunned.

“I think my reaction goes something like ‘Huh.’ And after that it goes something like. ‘Really?’” says Graham in her memoir, according to Bustle.

Like many Gilmore Girls fans who were left with a dozen questions about what the final four words could mean for some of our favorite characters, Graham also writes that she doesn’t necessarily consider them to be an ending, so much as the start of something new.

“They do not end the story we are telling as much as they introduce something that was not previously known,” continues Graham. “Which, to me, is not precisely an ending.”

In fact, Graham also admits that when she finally heard the final four words, she remembers responding to Palladino by saying, “Isn’t that more of a cliffhanger?”

Unfortunately, it sounds like if there’s more story to be told, Palladino is keeping tight lipped!

“Amy doesn’t answer me,” continues Graham. “She just smiles. Hmmmm.”

It sounds as though Graham isn’t quite convinced of the fact that the Gilmore Girls have told their final story. If we’re being honest, we’re not so sure either— we definitely have more than a few questions we’d love to ask Palladino about where the story goes from here, and we hope she gets around to answering them someday.

Is it wishful thinking to hope that we’ll get the answers in the form of a Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life season 2? Probably, but that’s not going to stop us from crossing our fingers anyway!
