George R.R. Martin Hints Some ‘Game Of Thrones’ Characters Will End Up In A Very Dark Place

If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that it’s not smart to get attached to any of the characters on Game of Thrones.

The HBO series has a penchant for killing off our favorites when we least expect it, just like George R.R. Martin does in his books. If Martin’s recent comments are anything to go by, that’s a trend that’s going to continue when we finally get our hands on his highly anticipated forthcoming book, The Winds of Winter.

On Friday (Dec. 2), Martin participated in a Q&A session in Mexico, live streamed by Penguin Random House, where the author revealed that things are only going to get darker for the people of Westeros from here on out.

“There are a lot of dark chapters right now in the book that I’m writing,” said Martin according to MTV. “I’ve been telling you for 20 years that winter was coming. And winter is the time when things die, and you know, cold and ice and darkness fills the world. So this is not going to be the happy, feel-good book that people may be hoping for. some of the characters end in very dark places.”

Martin’s recent comments have definitely got us wondering which of our favorites may be inching towards their imminent deaths. And despite the fact that the HBO series has a tendency to veer from the source material at times, we’re also wondering how much influence Martin’s unfinished source material will have on the final two seasons of Game of Thrones.

It’ll definitely be interesting to cross reference the show and the book when both are finally out sometime in the future. For now, we’ll just have to wait until both are released so we can return to the world of Westeros and see where we find the likes of the Starks, Lannisters, and more!
