The First Trailer For ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ Is Here And It’s Darker Than We Expected

Michael Bay is back with the fifth and final Transformers film, and this one is totally unexpected.

On Monday, Paramount released the first teaser for Transformers: The Last Knight and from the looks of it, this will be the darkest film in the franchise. So dark that Optimus Prime himself has turned evil, but we’re hoping that’s just a phase.

The new film, based on the trailer, picks up where Age of Extinction left off. The good news is that Mark Wahlberg is still the star and he’s not ready to back down. The bad news is that we’ve lost Optimus Prime to the dark side, as we see him floating away through space… at least in the beginning of the trailer.

Blood drips from a cross, war scenes are in high supply, and there are even Nazi battle scenes as the trailer starts up with an ominous voiceover talking about death, destruction and the battle of two worlds.

We’re not going to lie, the war-torn footage gives off a very dark vibe, and we’re not sure if Bumblebee and the humans can save the world this time.

The trailer also shows a lot of new action sequences, mayhem, and of course the return of Optimus Prime to Earth, but he’s a changed transformer. Whatever happened to him out in space has hardened him and he’s ready to kill Bumblebee and Cade Yeager (Wahlberg) — yikes.

He does however ask for forgiveness before he takes a giant stab at Cade (literally), which leads us to believe that there is some good inside him, but only time — and watching the whole movie — will tell if he can come back to the good side and save everyone one last time. Fingers crossed!

Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
