Sad news, Harmonizers. One member of pop’s reigning girl group, Fifth Harmony, has decided to part ways with the rest of the ladies. Camila Cabello has left the group.
Fifth Harmony made the news of Camila’s departing official late last night (Dec. 18) with a statement released on social media.
“After 4 and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representative that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony,” Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah, and Lauren wrote in the statement.
While this is surely upsetting to Harmonizers everywhere, we can’t really say it came as a shock. The 19-year-old has shown signs of breaking out on her own for quite some time. In late 2015, she collaborated with Shawn Mendes on the platinum-selling “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and her most recent collab with rapper Machine Gun Kelly, “Bad Things,” is climbing the Billboard charts. Camila also left early from shows on the 7/27 Tour earlier this year due to anxiety and exhaustion.
Is Camila’s departure for good? Will Camila drop a solo album or take some time off in 2017? Will the ladies change their name to Fourth Harmony now? Will anyone else leave the group? There’s a bunch of questions swirling around right now.
Although the remaining girls wished Camila well, they didn’t spend much time focusing on the negativity of losing a member but rather stood united.
“We are excited for our future and can’t wait what the new year brings,” they wrote later. Check out the full statement via the group’s Instagram below.
