The year is already looking up thanks to music’s favorite redheaded crooner, Ed Sheeran.

The Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter spent much of the last year laying low. After dropping his smash hit sophomore album x in 2014 and touring the world in 2015, Sheeran went on a self-imposed hiatus from the spotlight, including all social media, in 2016.

“I’m taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while,” he wrote to fans in December 2015. “I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I’ve missed.”

But the “Thinking Out Loud” singer definitely hasn’t been slacking off during his vacation.  Just as we said hello to 2017, Ed jumped back on Twitter and shared some exciting news for his fandom in a quirky way that only he could pull off.

The 25-year-old posted a video of himself on New Years Day (Jan 1) waving to the camera and holding up a sign reading “New Music Coming Friday.”

The next day (Jan 2), Ed doubled down on his new music excitement by sharing the official cover art for his third album ÷. Check out both announcements below.

Be sure to stay glued to Sheeran’s social feeds until Friday for any more clues about the new material.
