Game of Thrones is a People’s Choice Awards 2017 nominee for “Favorite Premium Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Series.” Check out all of our scoop roundups on the “Favorite Premium Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Series” nominees here!
There’s nothing worse than waiting for your favorite show to return— especially if you’ve got to wait even longer than usual, as is the case with Game of Thrones.
This year, the series won’t be returning until the summer of 2017, meaning we’ve still got a ways to go before we find out what’s going to happen to all of our favorite characters now that winter has finally arrived in Westeros.
While we wait for new episodes to premiere on HBO, we thought it’d be a good idea to brush up on some of the most interesting tidbits we know about what season 7 will entail.
Check out some of the fun information we dug up below while you wait for Game of Thrones season 7 to arrive!
1. Season 7 will be one of the craziest seasons of the series.
Everyone involved on Game of Thrones has been keeping tight lipped as to what next season will entail but that hasn’t stopped a few of the actors from sharing their reactions to reading the new scripts.
Most recently, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the show revealed that she was “actually speechless” while reading the new crop of scripts.
“This season is unbelievable,” Turner told E! News back in September. “I think fans are going to be really satisfied. It’s crazy.”
2. Winter is here, meaning we should expect plenty of ‘grim, grey, weather.’
In fact, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed on the UFC Unfiltered Podcast that a huge reason as to why season 7 won’t be released until this summer is because they’ve got to wait until winter hits their normal filming locations to begin shooting.
“Sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purpose anymore,” said the showrunners. “We kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”
3. Actor Jim Broadbent has been cast in a very big role.
We’re definitely looking forward to seeing what Broadbent brings to Game of Thrones— especially considering that they’re keeping the details of what role he’ll play firmly under wraps!
The only thing we do know is that according to EW, his role will be “significant.”— we think it might be time to put our super sleuthing caps on and start theorizing!
4. Jon and Sansa may not see eye to eye next season
If there’s one thing we noticed about Jon and Sansa after their joyous reunion, it’s that the siblings don’t always agree on how things should be run around Winterfell.
In a recent interview with Variety Sophie Turner teased that perhaps we’ll see more of Jon and Sansa butting heads next season.
“I don’t think she believes Jon is capable of running Winterfell and the north; she doesn’t think he has the intellect, the knowledge, the experience that she has, and I concur,” said Turner.
5. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have no plans to return for a prequel.
We’ve still got two seasons left before Game of Thrones wraps up for good, but that hasn’t stopped fans from looking ahead with regards to what comes next. The good news is, neither George R.R. Martin or HBO are ruling out the possibility of exploring more of Westeros’ stories. The bad news is, if a prequel does in fact get the green light, both Benioff and Weiss have revealed that the show will have to go on without them.
“I’m sure there will be other series set in Westeros, but for us, this is it,” the showrunners told TV Line back in September.
Game of Thrones is nominated for “Favorite Premium Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Series” at People’s Choice Awards 2017, alongside Marvel’s Luke Cage, Outlander, Stranger Things, and Westworld. Tune in to the show on Wednesday, Jan. 18 on CBS to see all the winners!
