While it was fun to see some of this year’s heavy hitters, such as La La Land and AMC’s The Night Manager, walk away with multiple awards, the 2017 Golden Globes was also chockfull of many other memorable moments!

1. Jimmy Fallon’s stellar opening number.
Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon kicked things off with a star studded musical number including Nicole Kidman, Rami Malek, John Travolta, Kit Harington, and more. The fun La La Land-inspired number even included a fun nod to some of the biggest moments in television, including Jon Snow coming back to life on Game of Thrones, and Stranger Things fans’ obsession with Barb.

3. Tracy Ellis Ross’ delivers an empowering acceptance speech.
The Black-ish star won her first Golden Globe on Sunday and used her time up at the podium to celebrate the beauty of diversity in entertainment. During her speech, Ross dedicated her big win to “all of the women [and] colorful people” working to make sure all different types of stories are told in both entertainment and film.
4. This Is Us stars Chrissy Metz Mandy Moore share an adorable mother-daughter moment.
While neither Metz nor Moore won the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, the This Is Us co-star shared an adorable moment amidst the nominee announcements. Just before the winner was announced, the camera panned over to the pair holding hands in excitement as they waited to see if either of them had won. It’s clear their their bond is just as strong on screen as it is off screen!
5. Ryan Gosling gives a beautiful shoutout to his wife, Eva Mendes.
Gosling may have won the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, but he took a moment during his acceptance speech to make sure that his wife and fellow Hollywood A-Lister, Eva Mendes, is the true star. Gosling got emotional while singing his wife’s praises for raising their daughters while Gosling was working on La La Land.
“If she hadn’t taken all of that on so I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me, so, sweetheart, thank you,” said Gosling.
6. Dev Patel helps his Lion co-star Sunny Pawar reach the microphone.
Dev Patel and Sunny Pawar totally win the award for most adorable moment of the night! While presenting their film Lion up on stage, Patel gave Pawar a hand— or rather, a lift— so he could reach the microphone! Just before they rolled the trailer for the film, Patel scooped his young costar up into his arms so he could properly introduce Lion. The pair then celebrated, with Patell telling Pawar he’d done a great job.
7. Steve Carrell and Kristen Wiig hilariously recall experiencing their first animated film.
The stars of Despicable Me 3 took the Golden Globes stage to present the award for Best Animated film on Sunday night but not before going into a hilarious bit about vividly recalling the first time they ever saw an animated film.
Unfortunately, Carrell’s experience with seeing Fantasia with his father for the first time as a boy was memorable for all the wrong reasons. After recalling seeing the magical film, Carrell wrapped the story up by going into a bit about how that also happened to be the same day his mother asked his father for a divorce.
“I never saw my father again after that day— Fantasia Day,” said Carrell, with perfect delivery.
8. Meryl Streep delivers a moving speech while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Meryl Streep delivered one of the most memorable speeches of the night while accepting this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award. The moment started with a touching tribute by her friend and fellow actress Viola Davis, who recalled just how nervous she was to be in Streep’s presence when they worked together on the critically acclaimed drama, Doubt, back in 2008. After, Streep took the stage and used her time not to reflect on her own career, but to remind us all that like America, Hollywood is comprised of people who come from all walks of life. The actress made her point by pointing out the diverse backgrounds of her fellow actors, including Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, Ryan Gosling. Though she was speaking softly due to having lost her voice, Streep’s speech was undoubtedly one of the strongest of the night.
9. Nicole Kidman swoops in and saves pal Reese Witherspoon during their presentation schtick.
Being a presenter at the Golden Globes is hard work! And no matter how much you prep, sometimes things don’t always go as planned. That’s exactly what happened when Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman teamed up to present the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie, and Best Limited Series or TV Movie.
Unfortunately, Witherspoon flubbed up her part of the presentation just a tad, but like any good friend, Kidman was there to smooth things over!
“We’re so good at this!” joked Kidman, effectively making a joke out of the situation.
