We’ve always known Jennifer Lopez is a triple threat — but now she’s got the trophy to prove it.
At the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday (Jan. 18), the Shades of Blue star won Favorite TV Crime Drama Actress — her first major TV award.
During her acceptance speech, Lopez kicked things off by thanking her fans in Spanish before going on to explain why her first win means so much.
“This was a passion project for me as a producer and as an actress,” said Lopez of getting to play Detective Harlee Santos on Shades of Blue.
Before wrapping things up, Lopez also made sure to thank the cast and crew, and NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt for making the show possible.
While Lopez certainly isn’t short on accolades, most of her awards have been in recognition of her music and movie career. (She won the Teen Choice Award for Choice TV personality in both 2011 and 2012, but that was for her role as a judge on American Idol.) An eight-time People’s Choice Awards nominee, this is Lopez’s first PCA nomination and win in a TV category.
Lopez made her series debut in 1994’s Hotel Malibu. In recent years, she’s focused mostly on music and movies, with 8 studio albums to her name, and starring roles in popular films including The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan, and Enough (to name just a few). She also served as a judge on Idol from 2007 to 2011.
On Shades of Blue, which just kicked off its second season on NBC, Lopez plays NYPD officer/informant Detective Harlee Santos. Lopez was nominated for Favorite Crime Drama TV Actress alongside Elementary’s Lucy Liu, Law & Order: SVU’s Mariska Hargitay, NCIS’ Pauley Perrette, and Chicago P.D’s Sophia Bush.
