3. Dwayne Johnson loses out to an unlikely candidate in the award for “Favorite Dwayne Johnson.
Joel McHale had a bit of fun with the categories for this year’s People’s Choice Award and even deiced to make one up of his own! The host took the stage to present the award for Favorite Dwayne Johnson, which included nominees like Dwayne “The Insurance Adjustor” Johnson, Dwayne “My Name Is Diane” Johnson. Unfortunately, actual Dwayne Johnson lost out to another nominee which turned out to be an actual rock named Dwayne “Actual Rock” Johnson. Better luck next time, Dwayne!

4. There was a mini Community reunion in the middle of the show.
In an effort to prove that votes really do matter at the People’s Choice Awards, host Joel McHale let fans in on some vote counting behind the scenes action featuring a very special guest! McHale tapped Community alumn Ken Jeong for a mini sketch which featured Jeong as the human vote counter tasked with making sure everyone’s votes were accounted for. Unfortunately, it seems as though McHale may have overworked his friend. In a hilarious moment just before the skit ended, Jeong tried to slip a message to the outside world via what looked like an official People’s Choice Awards winners envelope in the hopes of getting rescued from his current task.

“Please help, I’m being held against my will,” read the secret note. “Joel McHale is an inhuman monster.”

5. Justin Timberlake helps crown Ellen DeGeneres as the most decorated winner in People’s Choice Awards history.
With 20 wins to date, Ellen DeGeneres is officially the most decorated winner in PCAs history and we couldn’t let that go unnoticed on the big night! Timberlake was on hand to honor DeGeneres for all of her wins over the years and even brought out an entire crew dedicated to holding up all of Ellen’s 20 trophies. We’ve got no idea where she’s going to put them all, but it was amazing to see them all in one place!

6. Kristen Bell improvises beautifully after the teleprompter goes out while presenting the Favorite Humanitarian Award to Tyler Perry.
The star of The Good Place was the epitome of grace under pressure when the teleprompter went out right in the middle of her beautiful speech detailing exactly why Tyler Perry was a worthy recipient of this year’s Favorite Humanitarian Award. Despite not having the words in front of her, Bell spoke from the heart and improvised beautifully.

“The teleprompter has gone out,” said Bell suddenly. “But I think I can finish. I think we’re all incredibly grateful to have someone like [Tyler Perry] that can teach us to grow and give back.”

7. Fifth Harmony brings down the house with an energetic performance of “Work From Home.”
It’s safe to say that all eyes were on the pop group when they took the stage at People’s Choice Awards 2017 to perform for the first time as a foursome. The girls pulled off an amazing performance of their hit summer smash, “Work From Home,’ complete with powerful vocals and tight choreography. We can’t be the only ones itching to watch that performance again and again!

8. Joel McHale tries to buy some votes for his show The Great Indoors.
In a hilarious move that proves just how much every vote counts, McHale decided to do some unconventional campaigning for his series The Great Indoors by taking to the audience to see if he could buy some last minute votes.

“Who wants to make $5? You look like a likable every man that I would trust doing everything,” said McHale after stopping in front of Hanks. “Can you break a $20?”

9. Blake Shelton slows it down with his stellar live performance.
The country superstar pulled off a flawless rendition of his heartfelt ballad, “Every Time I Hear That Song” on the People’s Choice stage before getting surprised with the news that he’d won Favorite Album and Favorite Male Country Artist.

In his acceptance speech, Shelton made sure to thank Gwen Stefani for being “the hottest date here tonight,” before capping things off with a quip that shows off his unique sense of humor.

“Somewhere out there there’s somebody going, ‘How did he win album of the year? isn’t that just a country album full of stereotypical [stuff]?’ And to that person, I say, you’re right it is,” joked Shelton.
