It’s the beginning of the end for The Vampire Diaries and we’re already freaking out!

While the finale episode of the hit CW series isn’t set to air until March, the cast and crew are almost done shooting the last season.

Now that the end of filming is near, TVD stars are getting melancholy and so are we. In fact, Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore on the show, just posted the perfect picture to start the goodbye process.

On Monday, Somerhalder shared a photo alongside his TV brother, Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan Salvatore with a sweet and simple caption.

“Count down to the end starts now… with these two guys,” he wrote.

The show’s creator, Julie Plec, also got in on the Vampire Diaries farewell train yesterday with a sentimental and bittersweet tweet of her own.

“Today was the last table read for The Vampire Diaries,” Plec tweeted. “Not gonna lie, I pretty much lost it. #TVDforever.”

We’re not going to lie, this news is making us want to cry. The end of The Vampire Diaries? We never thought it would really happen!

Fingers crossed the final weeks of filming will give us wonderful cast moments and lost of throwbacks to the very beginning. Then maybe, we won’t remember that the end is near.

The Vampire Diaries airs on Fridays on The CW.
