A ‘Sing’ Sequel Is Officially In The Works

Sing is about to get an encore! Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures announced on Wednesday (Jan. 25) that fans of the animated musical hit can expect Sing 2 to hit theaters in 2020.

According to EW, the studio is eyeing another holiday release for the sequel and fans can expect Sing 2 to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2020.

Given how well Sing performed at the box office, it might not come as a huge surprise to some that a sequel is already in the works. The family film, which centers around a a koala named Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) who decides to host a huge singing completion in an effort to help save his theater, grossed a total of $429.8 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo.

In addition to Sing 2, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment also announced two more animated sequels set to hit theaters within the next two years.

Fans of the Minions will get second helpings of the lovable yellow sidekicks in Minions 2 when it opens in theaters on July 3, 2020. Unfortunately, those who just can’t wait for more Secret Life of Pets will have to wait just a bit longer. Secret Life of Pets 2, which was originally set to be released on July 13, 2018, is now set to premiere on July 3, 2019.
