If there is indeed a Beetlejuice 2 in the works, Michael Keaton doesn’t know about it.

The actor revealed in a recent interview with EW that he’s got no idea whether or not a sequel is in the cards. Even so, it’s clear the esteemed actor has certainly thought about it, and he’s come to the conclusion that trying to make a sequel for such an iconic comedy would come at no easy feat.

While Keaton didn’t seem opposed to the idea, the actor did stress that if Beetlejuice 2 ever were to happen, he’d want it to be done right.

“I just think it’s like a little piece of art that you better get right if you ever do it again,” said Keaton of the hit ’80s comedy. “Otherwise, you just kind of don’t touch it.”

Rumors of a Beetlejuice sequel started swirling after actress Winona Ryder appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers” back in 2015 and confirmed that she’d heard a second installment was in the works.

“I think I can confirm it. It was very hush-hush top secret…but then [Director Tim Burton] was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said, ‘Oh yeah, we’re doing it and Winona’s going to be in it.’” said Ryder. “If he said it, I can say it.”

We’ll definitely be interested to see if a sequel ends up panning out— especially if director Tim Burton can get the original cast on board for it!
