It’s no secret that The Vampire Diaries has been inching towards the end all season, but Julie Plec just reminded us all that the series finale is closer than we realized.

The showrunner took to Twitter on Wednesday (Jan. 26) to commemorate a very bittersweet first moment that’s bound to make Vampire Diaries fans far and wide feel a little bit emotional.

“Last first take #tvdforever,” tweeted Plec.

In addition to the sobering tweet, Plec also included a fitting photo of the clapperboard they used on set to mark the last first take of The Vampire Diaries.

The only thing that makes Plec’s post more sweet than bitter? The day after she shared the photo, it was confirmed that Nina Dobrev would be returning for the series finale to reprise her role as Elena Gilbert.

This isn’t the first time Plec has gotten sentimental going into the final season of the hit vampire drama. Back when season 8 made its big debut, Plec took to Twitter to commemorate the last season premiere ever.

“Guys, this is a big week. FRIDAY is the last time you’ll ever see a new season premiere of #TVD. Don’t miss it. #TVDForever,” tweeted Plec on October 16, 2016.

As sad as it is to be reminded that we’ll soon have to bid farewell to one of our favorite CW series, we can’t deny that we’ve been enjoying seeing Plec, and some of the other TVD cast members mark some of the final milestones of the series.

The Vampire Diaries airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
