Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them introduced us to a whole new crew of characters we could fall in love with, but Newt’s No-Maj friend, Jacob, is definitely one of our favorites.

J.K. Rowling may have dreamed Jacob up, but it was Dan Fogler‘s lovable performance that really brought the aspiring baker to life. While we can’t imagine anyone else in the role, it turns out Fogler had to work pretty hard to get cast. If you’re curious as to how he came to land the coveted role in Fantastic Beasts, you need only tune in to the Little Known Facts Podcast hosted by Ilana Levine to hear his story.

On the episode, which aired back in November of 2016, Fogler, who won a Tony Award in 2005 for his work on The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, revealed that it’s sort of a miracle he was cast because he wasn’t considered a frontrunner for the role at all. In fact, he wasn’t even on a shortlist of actors the casting producers were interested in.

Even so, Fogler scored the role, and his story of how it happened is not one to be missed! Check out Dan Fogler’s episode of the Little Known Facts podcast hosted by Ilana Levine now, and let us know what you thought of the episode in the comments!
