Fans of author George R.R. Martin will be getting a new piece of writing from the author before 2017 comes to a close, but it’s probably not the one you’ve been waiting for.
According to Vulture, the A Song of Ice and Fire author may be releasing an anthology called Book of Swords later on this year.
The new piece of writing will reportedly be set in the Game of Thrones universe and is set to be available for readers on October 10.
Martin is no stranger to anthologies. In fact, the author has released a few in the past, including his most recent two, “The Princess and the Queen” and “The Rogue Prince”. If Book of Swords follows a similar patter then it looks as though fans who pick up Martin’s latest anthology could be treated to writings cut from The World of Ice and Fire.
Vulture points out that Tumblr user nobodysuspectsthebutterfly posted a fairly convincing theory that perhaps Book of Swords will center around telling a version of Martin’s “The Sons of the Dragon” story. The popular writing is one that the author has read at more than a few fan conventions in the past, and centers around Denys and Maegor Targaryen.
While it would have been nice to discover that this latest release date was in fact tied to George R.R. Martin’s highly anticipated The Winds of Winter, it’s still exciting to hear that at least we’ve got a new anthology to look forward to this year!
