Bad news, Divergent fans, it looks as though the story will have to continue on without one of its main stars.
The fate of the Divergent series has been up in the air ever since Lionsgate announced that it plans to film the second part of the final film (entitled Ascendant) as a made-for-TV movie. The plan was for the final film to serve as a springboard for a spinoff television series. Unfortunately, the new direction of the film was met with some concern from the cast, many of whom weren’t sure whether or not they would be participating in the made-for-tv film.
While there’s still potential for some of the cast to return for the final installment, one face you won’t be seeing is that of Shailene Woodley, who brought Tris to life on the big screen.
Speaking to Vanity Fair at the premiere of her new HBO mini-series, Big Little Lies in Hollywood, the actress confirmed she would not be taking part in any future installments the franchise may be making.
“No,” Woodley told Vanity Fair. “I’m not going to be on the television show.”
We’re sure fans of Divergent will be waiting with baited breath to see if the rest of the cast follows in Woodley’s steps, or if some of them stay on to see the series through to the bitter end.
Either way, we’ll be interested to see what comes next when it comes to the Divergent series.
