Katy Perry’s Brand-New Single Is Already Breaking Records

Katy Perry’s new single “Chained to the Rhythm” has only been out a handful of days, but it’s already breaking records.

On Saturday (Feb. 11), Spotify announced that the track — which debuted just the day before — garnered 3,062,293 streams, making it the highest first-day streaming for a single track by a female artist, EW reports.

The success of the single bodes well for Perry, who is releasing her fifth studio album this year.

In 2016, Perry told Ryan Seacrest that she’s “taking chances” on her upcoming LP.

“We’re in the thick of it and we’re doing a lot of experimenting. I’m just taking some chances,” Perry told On-Air with Ryan Seacrest. “I’m just having a lot of fun, but experimenting and trying different producers, and different collaborators, and different styles. I’m not rushing … I’m confident if I stay vulnerable and authentic with myself, the music that comes out of me will continue to connect.”

Perry certainly got experimental when it came to promoting “Chained to the Rhythm.” The singer placed disco balls-turned-listening stations in various parts of the country, and dropped clues about their location on social media so fans could seek them out for an early listen.

Don’t be surprised if the single’s streams continue to soar — Perry performed the song at the 2017 Grammys on Sunday (Feb. 12), where it no doubt picked up even more repeat listeners.
