On Monday (Feb. 12), The CW released its first look at the series finale of The Vampire Diaries and the sneak peek doesn’t disappoint. The best part? We finally see Nina Dobrev’s return as Elena Gilbert!

We’ve really missed Dobrev and all of the characters she’s brought to The Vampire Diaries over the years, but Elena is the one we needed most back in our lives.

As you probably already know, Elena has been in a deep, deep slumber for some time now, but with Kai’s return to Mystic Falls, it was only a matter of time before everyone’s favorite human-turned vampire awakened.

The teaser is short, but sweet, oh so sweet. It is actually a little too short for our liking, but anything with Elena is good with us. It’s only 10 seconds, so be warned, it will leave you wanting more.

As it starts we see glimpses of Mystic Falls High School memorabilia in a trophy case. There is a cheerleading photo, trophies and ribbons.

Just then we see a reflection in the case… it’s Elena! She is awake and has a question.

“What happened?” Elena asks in the trailer. “Why am I here right now?”

Oh, and what a good question it is!

We can’t wait to see what Elena is doing back, and why she was finally woken up. Plus, what will happen when both Damon and Stefan see her again?

You’ll have to wait until the series finale to find out, but it’s actually much closer than you’d think. The final chapter of the eighth season debuts on March 10, so don’t miss it.

The Vampire Diaries airs Fridays on The CW at 8 p.m.
