We’ve already gotten an initial look at The Circle, which is based upon the novel by Dave Eggers, but this look is much more intense.
The idea that someone is watching you all the time, is at the center of this thriller, and it continually gives us the creeps as we watch the new trailer.
“Do you think you behave better or worse when you are being watched?” Tom Hanks’ character, Eamon, asks in the beginning of the new teaser, which was released on Thursday.
Eamon is the leader of The Circle, which is a high-tech company that focuses on the idea that “knowledge is power.” The Circle, however, seems to have a little too much power, and knows everything about everyone.
Next, we see Emma Watson’s character Mae gets a job offer from The Circle, and instantly her life changes.
At first you think it’s for the better, since The Circle is a lot like Google in prestige and the amazing community and opportunities it offers.
Throughout the clip you see Mae getting used to her new job, excelling quickly and fitting in seamlessly.
When she is unable to make a few functions, she has a sit down with her boss and later Eamon and reveals her father is sick. They instantly know that he has MS (creepy right?) and offers to put them on The Circle health plan.
From this moment on, Mae fully engulfs her life and loved ones into the cult-like business and it’s not good.
One fellow employee tries to warn her that things at The Circle need to change, and that his inventions aren’t being used properly.
Her boyfriend points out that they don’t have adventures anymore, instead everything is filtered through this lens… aka the camera that watches everyone, all the time.
“Knowing is good, but knowing everything is better,” Hanks’ character says in a serious tone before asking Watson’s character, “Is there anything you want to tell us?”
We want to know what’s happening in this twisted movie? We need to know how bad the bad actually is and if Watson’s character can get out!
The Circle hits theaters on April 28, 2017.
