Live action remakes have been all the rage at Disney over the past few years, but even so, audiences young and old seem to be incredibly excited for Beauty and the Beast.
Given the utterly magical trailers we’ve gotten for the film which stars Harry Potter alumn, Emma Watson, we can’t say we blame them for getting swept up in the tale as old as time!
Despite following in the footsteps of Maleficent and The Jungle Book, director Bill Condon wants fans to know that there’s one major way in which the live action version of Beauty and the Beast differs from live action adaptations of the past few years.
In a recent interview with Pop Inquirer, Condon revealed that unlike films like Maleficent, the goal with Beauty and the Beast was not to tell the story from a new perspective, but simply to bring it to life in a different way.
“There have been some recent movies that have been top to bottom reinventions or stories as seen from another character’s point of view or something. This is not that. What we wanted to do was bring the story more into reality, not create a new story,” said Condon of the film.
From the way Condon tells it, it sounds like this truly is the Beauty and the Beast of our childhood coming to life. That’s probably why we’ve seen so many subtle nods to the 90s animated classic in the trailers we’ve seen for the film!
We’re definitely excited to see one of our favorite tales hit the big screen in just a few weeks!
Beauty and the Beast premieres in theaters on March 17.
