Time to throw it back on this almost-spring Thursday to a special time in our lives: When The Proud Family ruled the Disney Channel airwaves.
The classic animated series introduced us to 14-year-old Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt) and her hilarious and misadventure-filled life with her friends (confident Dijonay, shy Zoey, and frenemy LaCienega Boulevardez) and family (overprotective parents Oscar and Trudy, groovy granny Suga Mama, and twin siblings Bebe and CeCe). The series ran from 2001 until 2005, bringing with it fun, laughter, and a whole lot of family craziness.
When People’s Choice spoke with Kyla Pratt last February during promotion for her short-lived Freeform (formerly ABC Family) series Recovery Road, we couldn’t help but ask about her hit Disney Channel show. Fortunately for all of us Proud Family fans, Pratt would love to be a part of the show’s craziness again!
“I’ve seen pictures going around the Internet lately of a revamped Proud Family, of my character older and graduating,” said Pratt. “I would love to be a part of something like that.”
A lot has changed in Pratt’s life since the show first premiered in 2001, but Pratt will never forget how much “fun to work with” the cast was. At only 14 years old when the show began, we can only imagine all the fun she had starring in her own Disney Channel series!
“We started when I was like 14 years old,” said then 29-year-old (now 30). ” So, just knowing that something that I did so long ago, that people still care about it, is amazing.”
Fans from when the show first aired are not only ones who care. The series picked up two new fans over the years who just so happen to be Pratt’s kids.
“Now my kids watch The Proud Family Movie, and that’s the best part about the things that I have shot is the fact that my kids are able to watch things that I was in when I was younger,” Pratt shared. “I would love to be a part of something like that. I think it would be so cool. “
Bringing this show back would bring back yet another piece of Disney Channel’s golden age. That’s So Raven‘s revival is already on its way, so that just leaves The Proud Family’s other peak-Disney Channel companions Lizzie McGuire, Phil of the Future, Kim Possible, and Even Stevens to plot their returns.
If for some reason you’re not already on board with a Proud Family reunion, let us remind you that an updated revival of this series might just mean an updated revival of its theme song…AKA Solange and Destiny’s Child back in the booth getting their theme song on!
🎶You and me will always be tight, family every single day and night🎶
Now that we’re all on the same page, it’s time to get the rest of The Proud Family cast in on it, as well as Solange and Destiny’s Child. Let the campaigning begin!
