One Tree Hill had its fair share of memorable characters, but it’s safe to say Jake Jaglieski is up there as one of the most popular fan favorites.
The single father who’s still in high school is undoubtedly one of the easiest characters to love from the get-go, and much of that can be attributed to actor Bryan Greenberg’s portrayal of him. That being said, it might surprise you to know that Greenberg never actually auditioned for the role.
So how did the actor score his gig on One Tree Hill? In an interview with the Little Known Facts podcast with Ilana Levine, Greenberg revealed that he’s got none other than his gig starring opposite a young Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson in The Perfect Score to thank for scoring a spot on the hit CW series.
“The writer on [The Perfect Score] was Mark Schwahn, and he went on to create One Tree Hill, and we had a great working relationship, and he said, ‘I got a role for you,’” explained Greenberg. “So he’s like, ‘It’s just a recurring thing,’ and I said, ‘That’s great!’ I was just dying to work and work with him.”
Despite the fact that Schwahn originally referred to Jake as a “recurring thing,” Greenberg is convinced he scored the best role in the whole series.
“Mark gave me the best storyline— I think that’s why people responded to my character so much,” continued Greenberg. “I mean, it was impossible not to love that character.”
