Hilarie Burton is fast becoming a staple on the Hallmark Channel, and we couldn’t be happier!
Well, there’s one thing that could make us happier, and that’s if more of her One Tree Hill friends joined in on the romantic fun. A few of them already have Hallmark movies under their belts, like Bethany Joy Lenz with 2014’s The Christmas Secret, Shantel VanSanten in the recently-premiered Love Blossoms, and Jana Kramer with her upcoming Love at First Bark, but there’s *always* room for more OTH stars in the Hallmark family!
Burton, who played Peyton on the CW drama, leads the OTH pack on the channel with THREE movies, with her most recent flick Summer Villa having aired last July. Fans of hers got double the fun that July weekend because it also happened to be the InsideOTH convention in Wilmington where Burton herself appeared and where People’s Choice got a chance to ask the versatile actress all about her love of TV movies.
It’s not just the three Hallmark flicks, she’s also starred in two Lifetime movies, including one with former CW co-star Tyler Hilton, Christmas on the Bayou. Just when you thought troublemaker Chris Keller was done after going for both Haley [played by Lenz] and Brooke [played by Sophia Bush], there he was on Lifetime to try his hand with Peyton. Okay, so they played completely different characters in the movie, but it was still strange, and yet oh-so-fun to see the two share the screen with each other again.
So fun, in fact, we started to wonder what it would be like for Burton to star in a TV movie with another OTH actor, this time on the Hallmark Channel. But who would the Lethal Weapon actress most want to film one with? We asked her just that, and it turns out, there’s one guy in particular she’s already had her eye on.
“Oh, Rob [Buckley, who played Clay Evans] and I have been trying to do a Hallmark movie together forever,” Burton said. “I love these Hallmark movies, they’re the best jobs. And Rob and I were almost able to do one together in February and then plans, the production fell through.”
While plans for this masterful movie hit a little bump, they aren’t going to give up.
“That I think, is the next step,” the former MTV VJ said. “We have so much fun together and the Hallmark genre doesn’t take itself seriously. Literally we’re both goobers. So, yeah, that’s what I want. It’ll be the most epic Christmas movie ever.”
There you have it. Not just any Hallmark movie, but a Christmas movie, which is what the channel is known for. While the channel’s Countdown to Christmas programming event is always a hit, this time we’d like to change the name just slightly, to make it favor what we’re most looking forward to – Countdown to the Burton/Buckley Christmas Movie.
As if you could handle any more details right now, Burton shared a little hint about the film’s plot: “He’ll be an elf, I’ll be a polar bear, we’ll fall in love.”
Okay, so Burton was totally joking about that last part, but let’s be real, we’d still totally watch an elf/polar bear romance if it starred the perfect pairing of Burton and Buckley! In the end, it doesn’t matter what the storyline is, because we’ll be counting down the days until the flick’s premiere no matter what.
