It’s been more than 25 years since Home Alone first hit theaters, but it is still a holiday staple. Well, technically it can be watched year-round, but winter break is when most people watch it on repeat and we don’t blame them.
While there are a TON of characters in the classic comedy, we’ve decided to fill you in on a few key people. Sorry that means you won’t find out what all of Kevin McCallister’s (Macaulay Culkin) siblings are up to these days. You will however, see what the lead himself has been doing, as well as his arch enemies and of course some of his crazy relatives.
To catch up on what your favorite eight-year-old troublemaker and his fellow characters have been doing in real life since the film wrapped, keep reading!
Macaulay Culkin (Kevin McCallister)
Kevin! Screaming Kevin’s name or the phrase, “keep the change you filthy animal” will be in our heads and hearts forever thanks to Macaulay Culkin’s amazing acting job. Culkin became a MAJOR child star after playing Kevin, and went on to star in My Girl and Richie Rich in 1994. He eventually took an acting break before coming back in the mid ‘00s to star in the Mandy Moore movie, Saved!.
He has voiced a few characters on Robot Chicken since then and played himself on The Jim Gaffigan Show in 2015 and 2016. When he’s not acting, the New York native is performing with his band, The Pizza Underground. Yes, Culkin is in a band!
Joe Pesci (Harry Lime)
Harry was definitely the mastermind behind all of the holiday heists, and Joe Pesci is equally as smart and talented. The New Jersey actor is a BIG name in Hollywood. The same year Pesci played Harry, he starred in Goodfellas, which is one of his most iconic role. In the ‘90s, the actor was everywhere starring in films like My Cousin Vinny, Lethal Weapon 3 and Casino. He has been acting since 1961 and has a new film in the works called The Irishman set to premiere in 2018.
Daniel Stern (Marv Merchants)
Oh Marv, how we love you and your goofball antics! Daniel Stern played Marv perfectly and we still can’t get over his slogans and ideas, like being the “wet bandits.” While Stern has had a successful movie career starring in films like, Rookie of the Year, and City Slickers, it’s his TV career that has kept him on our radar all these years. The Maryland native was the narrator on The Wonder Years before starring on Dilbert (as Dilbert) and Danny in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. He’s been guest starring on a few other series recently, including Amazon’s Angie Tribeca.
Catherine O’Hara (Kate McCallister)
Kate McCallister is either the best mom ever, or the worst mom of all time… or maybe both. Either way, Catherine O’Hara played her in the 1990 film and we just love her. Some other major roles you might’ve forgotten about are O’Hara voicing Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas (another holiday classic), and her role in Tall Tale and Best in Show. She also voiced the mom in Monster House, and appeared on Glenn Martin DDS. Lately, O’Hara is killing it as Moira Rose on the hit comedy Schitt’s Creek, and we can’t get enough of it.
John Heard (Peter McCallister)
Beginning in the ‘70s, John Heard was everywhere in Hollywood. While we will always remember him as Kevin’s dopey dad, with a great winter coat, Peter McCallister, he’s had a LOT of other iconic roles. In the ‘90s he was in Gladiator, Desert Blue and on The Client for starters. His career didn’t slow down once the ‘00s hit, appearing in numerous movies and a recurring role on The Sopranos. Heard has also been on numerous TV shows for a few episodes here and there including, NCIS: Los Angeles, Elementary and Mistresses. Talk about being well-rounded!
Devin Ratray (Buzz McCallister)
“Buzz your girlfriend, woof!” will always be a quote we remember thanks to Home Alone. We know Kevin says this line, but his big brother Buzz, played by Devin Ratray, is so memorable and mean that we love him. Since playing the mean older brother, on screen, Ratray has continued to work in movies. He was in Dennis the Menace, Breaking Point, and Nebraska. Most recently he was in Masterminds alongside Kristen Wiig and Owen Wilson. Plus, he’s working on two new projects, so yay.
Gerry Bamman (Uncle Frank)
Uncle Frank was actually the worst. He was so annoying, rude to Kevin and was a total mooch. Gerry Bamman, who played the role, however, is a good actor who has been busy the past 20 plus years. You might’ve seen him in Great Expectations, Superstar, or The Cookout. He also played a bunch of different characters on Law & Order. He was most recently seen on The Following in 2015.
Which Home Alone character is your favorite? Do you watch the movie every Christmas?
