Should ‘Big Little Lies’ Return For Season 2? No One Can Agree

Big Little Lies wrapped up for good on Sunday (April 2), but fans are already yearning for a second season.

Though the drama — which is based off the best-selling book by Liane Moriarty — was created as a one-season mini series for HBO, celebrities and fans alike are clamoring for more. Even some of the drama’s stars are open to returning for another round.

In fact, during a Facebook Live chat recently, Reese Witherspoon encouraged fans to share there ideas for season 2 with the novel’s author.

“One of the main questions everyone keeps asking us is, ‘Is there going to be a season two,'” Witherspoon said in a Facebook Live alongside co-star Laura Dern. “We’ve been talking briefly with the writer, and you guys should Facebook Liane Moriarty [the writer of the novel Big Little Lies] and tell her how much you want to see Big Little Lies 2. That would be good. She’s thinking about ideas, and so we would love to hear ideas.”

Witherspoon, who is also an executive producer on the show, is clearly on team more Big Little Lies. Her fellow co-star, Nicole Kidman, is also on board for more from the series, as long as everyone is on board.

Kidman explained that if Moriarty and show creator, David E. Kelley, decided on a new storyline then she wouldn’t say no to playing Celeste again.

“So between Liane and David, I would hope that they could come up with something… I mean, it took us six months to shoot this,” Kidman told TV Line. “So we all went, ‘Uh… OK!’ I think if there was something compelling and extraordinary that they could come up with, then would we want to go and embody these women again? That would be a beautiful prospect.”

Despite the positive attitude towards a season 2 of the HBO show from the cast, the executive producer isn’t as receptive to the idea of coming back.

“No, no, this is the perfect ending,” executive producer and director, Jean-Mac Vallee told Vulture. “There is no way; there’s no reason to make a Season 2. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen. If we do a season two, we’ll break that beautiful thing and spoil it.”

So there you have it, the cast and creators are split! While it seems like a no for now when it comes to Season 2 of Big Little Lies, we’re holding out hope for another season down the line.

What about you guys, do you want another Big Little Lies season?
