Chris Evans Hints He May Be Done Playing Captain America

Bad news, Captain America fans. It sounds as though it might be time for Chris Evans to hang up his shield for good.

The Gifted star recently stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres Show where he confirmed that his contract with Marvel is up after these next few bout of films. After Ellen asked whether Avengers Infinity War is possibility the last time fans will see him as Captain America, Evans replied, “It is.”

“My contract is up. I have Avengers 3 and 4. We do Avengers 3 now, and 4 is the latter part of the year, and after that, that is the end of my contract,” said Evans on the show according to Metro UK.

As much as we’d love to see Evans play Steve Rogers forever, we would totally understand if the actor wanted to walk away from the role after he wraps on these next few Avengers films.

Evans, who has now starred in three solo Captain America films, has been portraying the shield-wielding superhero for the better part of six years now, and it would make sense if he decided to bid farewell to Cap in order to pursue other projects.

That being said, there’s always the possibility that Evans might extend his contract with Marvel. For now, however, it seems as though the actor’s fate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is very much up in the air.

Regardless of whether or not Evans picks up the shield after these next two Avengers films, fans can rest easy in knowing we’ll still be seeing a lot of the actor on the silver screen.

Up next, fans can find Evans starring in the upcoming drama, Gifted, due out on April 7. After that, Evans is set to star in next year’s Jekyll, a tale about the only living descendant of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde who makes a deal with the dark side.
