Buffy fans shouldn’t get their hopes up when it comes to the series getting the revival treatment— at least not if series star Sarah Michelle Gellar has anything to say about it.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, and with series like Boy Meets World, Full House and more, getting a second go around, it seems only natural that Buffy fans would hope for the same for their favorite series.

In an interview with BUILD Series, however, Gellar revealed that while some shows like Gilmore Girls have been able to successfully come back, she doesn’t think the same could be said for Buffy.

“[Buffy the Vampire Slayer] was about the horrors of adolescence and how that manifests into the monsters that were the actual monsters in our show, and I don’t know necessarily what that translates into today,” said Gellar.

On a personal note, Gellar also joked that picking up the stake again would probably transpire in the actress breaking every bone in her body.

Buzz surrounding a potential Buffy revival picked up steam after Entertainment Weekly reunited the cast for its latest issue. During interviews with EW, some of the cast seemed open to the idea of some sort of follow-up series, but Gellar held firm saying that fans would be disappointed “if we created something and it didn’t live up to the expectation because the expectation is so incredibly high.”

Though Buffy might never get the reboot treatment, Gellar did leave fans with a bit of a silver lining while speaking to AOL when she reminded everyone watching that the spirit of the series lives on in the heart of the fanbase. And it’s the passion of the fans that has cemented Buffy’s immortality in pop culture.
