Pierce Brosnan is setting the record straight on his rumored involvement in Deadpool 2, and it’s not what fans were hoping to hear.
On Tuesday (April 5), Brosnan appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and talk quickly turned to the rumors that he’s playing Cable in Deadpool 2. Speculation that Brosnan had been cast in the role began after the actor was photographed alongside Deadpool star and creator, Ryan Reynolds, and X-Men star Hugh Jackman, at an airport.
He was posing in the middle of two major stars of the Marvel universe, so it makes sense why people would think he could be joining the superhero ranks.
When Kimmel asked whether or not Brosnan could play Cable (the character doesn’t yet have an actor attached to it), Brosnan said, “[it’s] not true. Nothing’s come my way yet. It’s completely made up.”
As for the photo, it just sort of happened according to The Son actor.
“We were sitting, waiting for a plane, the three of us, and the guy said, ‘Quick, let’s get a photograph,’ and [I] jump in the middle and Mr. Reynolds said, ‘Let’s do Three Wise Monkeys.’ [We] put it out there and it went viral.”
Of course Kimmel tried to dig a little deeper about the Marvel role, but Brosnan stood his ground and debunked the current rumor.
“I don’t lie,” he continued. “They know where to find me, it’s just fabricated.”
While we’d love to see the Irish actor in a superhero flick, we’ll just have to wait until the real actor for Cable is announced. Fingers crossed it’s sooner rather than later!
Deadpool 2 is slated to hit theaters in 2018.
