Jimmy Fallon is well known for playing light-hearted pranks on Tonight Show viewers. For Wednesday night’s (April 5) show, however, he enlisted none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to help pull one over on fans.
The duo hit up Universal Studios Orlando together to help celebrate the opening of Fallon’s new ride, Race Through New York, and had a bit of fun with unsuspecting park visitors. The tourists might have been the ones getting pranked, but it’s clear that Fallon and Johnson were the ones who got the biggest surprise of all.
During a stint in which the pair, dressed as mascots of themselves, took to Race Through New York to photobomb unsuspecting riders, things took a bit of a turn when a man that they met ended up being a Dwayne Johnson super fan.
After photobombing the couple during their official ride photo op, the park-goer turned to whom he assumed was simply someone playing a character of Johnson, and excitedly embraced him.
“My man, my hero since I was like five years old,” said the unsuspecting fan.
Things got emotional when Johnson took off his mask and revealed himself. Speechless, the man started tearing up before telling Johnson how big a fan he truly is. Talk about a prank gone right!
Needless to say, now we’re tearing up, too.
UPDATE: On Friday (April 7), Johnson posted a note on Instagram about what the encounter meant to him.
“When he hugged me he was shaking and giving that loud grown man cry. Not only will I never forget this day, but stuff like this will always be the best part of fame,” wrote The Rock. “This reaction was priceless and I’m still shaking my head at the chain of events that had to happen for this one moment of awesomeness to go down.”
