Like many characters on Game of Thrones, Jorah Mormont hasn’t had it easy. In fact, the last time we saw Daenerys’ devoted subject, he had finally succeeded in earning her trust back at a grave cost to himself. So will the now disease-afflicted Jorah survive the upcoming season? According to actor Iain Glen, it’s a firm “maybe.”
Glen, who recently sat down with Mashable, talked about how readily Game of Thrones axes its characters.
“There’s quite a high death count in Game of Thrones and they don’t blanch at removing favorite characters,” Glen told Mashable. “They just get rid of them in a brutal way.”
And while Jorah has managed to survive so far, fans shouldn’t get too comfortable about his fate.
“My end may well be close,” Glen told Mashable. “But so far I’m doing OK.”
In season 6, Jorah had finally earned Daenerys’ trust back after he’d been ordered to leave her sight after she discovered that he was originally sent to her as a spy for Varys.
Later, Jorah returned to Daenerys after capturing Tyrion Lannister, in the hopes that bringing the Mother of Dragons such a valuable prisoner would win him her favor again. Unfortunately, in the midst of capturing Tyrion, Jorah contracted the deadly greyscale. The last we saw of Jorah, Daenerys had sent him off to find a cure for his own disease, so we’ll be interested to see if he succeeds or not.
Here’s hoping we get to see Daenerys’ devoted subject return to her before the series comes to a close.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO July 16.
