Earlier this week, we told you that Evans recently hinted that his time playing Steve Rogers could very well be coming to an end. Evans’ contract with Marvel is actually set to expire after he finishes wrapping Avengers 3 and Avengers 4. After that, there’s no telling if Evans will ever pick up Cap’s vibranium shield again.
As sad as it is to imagine a Marvel Cinematic Universe without Chris Evans in it, a new interview with the Gifted star in USA Today reveals that he’s trying to look on the bright side of things. If in the event that his contract doesn’t get extended, Evans is clearly taking comfort in the fact that he’s had a great time getting to play Steve Rogers for three solo Captain America films.
“I’ve had a great run. Superheroes are reinventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it,” Evans told USA Today. “However they want to proceed after Avengers 4, it’s really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful.”
Despite the fact that Evans’ time with Cap remains in limbo, we’re taking comfort in the fact that it seems as though he wouldn’t be opposed to staying on for another few films.
Regardless of what Evans and Marvel decide to do, the good news is that we’ll still get to see Evans wield Cap’s shield in two more Avengers flicks.
Superheroes aside, up next, Chris Evans fans can catch the actor starring in the upcoming drama Gifted, where he’ll play the guardian of an extraordinary little girl.
Gifted hits theaters in select cities on April 7, and nationwide on April 12.
