Mark Hamill Reveals His ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Alternate Ending Idea And It Might Be Better Than The Original

It looks like Mark Hamill wasn’t exactly a fan of the ending to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In fact, he has an idea for an alternative ending that some fans might really like instead.

After Han Solo was killed by his son Ben in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans were upset because it meant that Han Solo and Luke Skywalker could never be reunited on screen.

During the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida over the weekend, Hamill revealed that he, too, was bummed about the ending, but has a different one in his head that will please everyone… well, maybe not everyone.

“Absolutely. In fact, I was reading and thought if Leia is trying to mentally contact me and she’s not successful, she’ll rush to his aid,” Hamill told Fandango (via Slash Film) after being asked if he was sad about Han Solo. “She’ll get close to him and then get into some dire situation and THAT’S when I show up for a big ‘yay.’”

His ending includes teaming up with Leia to change the emotional outcome, or at least include his character more.

“Save her life, then we rush to Han and are in the same position that Rey and Finn and Chewie are in. Too late to save him, but witnesses,” he continued. “Because it would carry so much emotional resonance into the next film. For us: his wife, his best friend to witness. Instead of two characters that have known him, what, 20 minutes? [Besides] Chewie. I thought that was a great missed opportunity.”

Interesting, very interesting!

We love that Hamill didn’t change the outcome of Han Solo’s death, but instead linked it to the main characters who have been so important throughout the franchise. It would have been like one last goodbye, which Star Wars fans would have loved.

What do you think about Hamill’s alternate ending?

(This post has been updated with the correct spelling of Han Solo.)

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
