During a recent interview with Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show, Styles revealed how his longtime friend Sheeran nearly made him second guess his album tracklist.
The One Direction singer said he turned to Sheeran for guidance while working on his first solo album, the self-titled Harry Styles. Since Sheeran is a HUGE success when it comes to songwriting and singing, it makes sense that Styles would get his input.
The interesting part is that Sheeran was a little too honest.
Throughout the radio interview, famous singers sent in videos to the British singer to ask him questions about life and his first solo venture. Of course, the red haired singer got in on the action, which led to Styles talking about Sheeran’s thoughts on his tracklist.
“He’s one of the most talented dudes I know,” Styles told the radio host. Styles then explained that he actually worked on 70 songs (including “little ideas” and main songs) with his team before narrowing down to 10 tracks for the album. The only problem was that Sheeran liked a song that didn’t make the final cut.
“I played [Sheeran] a couple of songs after the album was finished,” Styles said. “He liked one that wasn’t on there, so I had a minute of like [hesitation].”
He then made a face and joked that maybe it would be an extra EP or on another album. Oh man, now we want to know what this song was called and what it sounded like. If Sheeran approved of it, it definitely should’ve been on the album!
Harry Styles drops on May 12, 2017.
