Thanks to her role as Hermione in Harry Potter, Emma Watson has pretty much always been in the public eye. Over the years, however, the actress has become more and more vocal about her private identity staying intact.

During an interview with Jessica Chastain for the latest issue of Interview via E! News, Watson revealed that she’s had ups and downs balancing her life under a microscope.

“It’s one of the things that I struggle with, because the three of us—[Daniel Radcliffe], [Rupert Grint], and I—were kids when we got cast in this fairy-tale series, and what happened to us was kind of a fantasy story in itself. Outside of the movies,” Watson explained to Chastain during their Interview chat. “So the story of my life has been of public interest, which is why I’ve been so passionate about having a private identity. When I step into a character, people have to be able to suspend their disbelief; they have to be able to divorce me from that girl.”

In order to stay true to herself and not get overwhelmed she’s made a couple of decisions that many people don’t approve of like not taking photos with fans on the street.

“I know that I’m under a different microscope, a certain level of scrutiny, which I find really hard at times. And sometimes the fear of doing things is overwhelming,” Watson said.

Being a celebrity, especially one who starts out as a successful child actor, is tough, but in our opinion, Watson has done it with ease. You go girl!
