Miley Cyrus is back with new music, and it’s unlike anything she’s written or recorded before. Interested? So are we!

As Billboard‘s latest cover star, Cyrus opens about her reinvention.

So what exactly can we expect from the 24-year-old singer’s new album? For starters, it’s going to be a whole new sound.

The singer’s new single, “Malibu,” is slated for release later this month. According to her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, the track is essential Miley.

“This is Miley leaning into her roots more than I’ve ever heard,” Billy Ray Cyrus told Billboard. “For her, this is honest.”

It turns out that for Miley, inspiration can come from the most unexpected places. The former Disney star revealed she came up with “Malibu” while she was in an Uber on the way to The Voice, where she serves as a coach.

“I was trying not to sing out loud because someone else was in the car,” Cyrus told the publication. In an Uber, who would’ve guessed?

Cyrus said that people always stare at her, even when she’s just walking out of a restaurant, or because of her style, so this song is a way to express who she truly is and how she feels. And she’s not at all stressing about what kind of response her music will receive.

“My main concern isn’t radio,” Cyrus said. “I truly don’t even listen to it.”

“Malibu” drops on May 11, 2017.
