Batman fans may be desperate to know if Josh Gad  will be assuming the role of one of the Dark Knight’s most infamous foes. But if you’re looking for a straight answer, the Beauty and the Beast star isn’t about to give one to you.

On Tuesday (May 9), Gad took to Twitter to partake in a Q&A session with his fans where the subject of whether or not he’d be taking on the role of Oswald Cobblepot (better known as Penguin) in the Batman franchise came up.

Rumors of the Frozen star assuming the role of one of Gotham’s biggest criminals have been swirling on Twitter for a while, sparked in part by Gad himself. According to ComicBook.com, fans started speculating over the possibility of Gad potentially portraying Penguin on the big screen after the actor tweeted a comic panel featuring the infamous villain.

While the tweet was fun in and of itself, what really sent fans reeling was the realization that a few big names at DC Entertainment recently started following the actor on Twitter. Coincidence? Maybe, but it’s certainly fun to think about the possibility of what it could all mean!

Either way, it’s clear Gad isn’t ready to answer the question one way or another. When one fan asked the actor if he was “gonna be penguin,” Gad chose to respond with the eyes looking up emoji.

We’re not quite sure what Gad’s response could mean, but we’re just happy to know that he didn’t outright say no. As far as we’re concerned, that means there’s still a chance, which is great for us because we think Gad would totally kill it as the Penguin!

In the past, Penguin has been portrayed on the big screen by Danny DeVito, and on the television series, Gotham, by Robin Lord Taylor. Both actors have put their own spin on the villainous character, and we’d love to see what Gad could do with the role if in the event the rumors proved to be true.

We guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but until then we’re keeping our fingers crossed!
