Another one bites the dust! Fox has officially canceled Sleepy Hollow after four seasons on the network.
The supernatural series followed Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) as he woke up from the dead in the wrong century. He teamed up with a local Sleepy Hollow detective Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) to rid the town and the world of evil.
After Behari decided to depart the series in season 3, there was speculation that Sleepy Hollow might wrap up — but the show decided to move on without the lead actress, bringing in Janina Gavankar to play Ichabod’s new counterpart, secret service agent Diana.
Sadly, the mini revamp wasn’t enough to overcome low ratings and survive the network cancelation.
According to Deadline, the series only averaged 3.2 million viewers and 0.9 amongst adults 18-49 in its final season. Despite the sad news, co-creator Phillip Iscove couldn’t help but gush over everyone involved with the project.
“It’s a sad day but in the end #SleepyHollow was an absolute dream for me,” Iscove tweeted on Tuesday. “From the bottom for my heart, thank you to every actor, writer, director, producer and incredible crew on all their endless hard work.”
He then thanked all of the fans who helped bring it back for both a third and fourth season.
“But it’s the fans that made the show truly come alive and to them I owe the biggest debt,” he continued. “Thank you so much! I love all the #Sleepyheads!!”
Gavankar also took to Twitter to say goodbye to the show.
“I’m SO grateful for my time on
@SleepyHollowFOX. Thank you to the entire cast, crew, and most of all FANS who watched along the years,” she wrote.
Orlando Jones, who portrayed Frank Irving until exiting the drama in 2015, also took to Twitter to bid farewell to his former show.
“Thank YOU. It was such a fun ride. Long Live the #Sleepyheads Ichabbie4Life & Mr&MrsBAMF5eva,” Jones tweeted.
Ichabbie four life is right! We will definitely miss all-things Ichabod Crane for years to come!
